Since beginning her congressional service this year, Rep. Alexandra Ocasio-Cortez has quickly shifted from one gaffe to another, with each subsequent statement being more absurd. But she may have ruined her career after this bizarre meltdown.
She blasted a prominent New York City public school for having admission standards based upon merit. “To only have 7 Black students accepted into Stuyvesant (a *public* high school) tells us that this is a system failure,” she tweeted.
She attempting to contrast Stuyvesant’s numbers with the fact that “68% of all NYC public school students are Black or Latino.” Therefore, she said, “Education inequity is a major factor in the racial wealth gap. This is what injustice looks like.”

By extension, she’s also claiming that it isn’t racist to give someone a benefit they didn’t earn based solely on the color of their skin. She would prefer that merit-based schools like Stuyvesant be forced to admit everyone, no matter what.
She didn’t expect to be skewered on Twitter for her mental gymnastics. “Equality of opportunity doesn’t mean equality of outcome,” responded one Twitter user. “It should be all about merit. That is true fairness,” said another.
