The chief of staff to the secretary for the Department of Homeland Security suddenly resigned on September 12.
Karen Olick was the top staffer in the organization and reported straight to the Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Mayorkas alerted Olick’s coworkers of her decision by sending out an email saying that Karen “decided to resign her position and pursue new opportunities.” Probably because “Karen did what was best and got off this sinking ship when she could” didn’t sound positive enough.
Perhaps Olick was just so overloaded with crises that she couldn’t take it anymore. The border disaster, Biden’s premature evacuation in Afghanistan… you get the picture.
Jennifer Higgins has been tapped to fill the position until a permanent replacement can be found. Higgins is a 20-year government employee herself, so she’ll fit right in on Biden’s team.
