One look at the news is all it takes to conclude that being a Virginia Democrat isn’t the best career move, and now Democrats have been knocked on their heals by yet another scandal.
Justin Fairfax, Virginia’s embattled lieutenant governor, has ratcheted up his rhetoric as he fights for political survival. He has become so desperate that even comparing his plight to lynching isn’t below him.
In a speech before the Senate, he said, “If we go backwards in a rush to judgment, and we allow for political lynchings without any due process, any facts, any evidence being heard, then I think we do a disservice to this very body in which we all serve.”
As a recap, Fairfax is referring to the accusations from two women who have come forward and claimed sexual misconduct against him. He is next in line to be governor should Gov. Ralph Northam end up resigning over his troubles.
Fairfax’s ‘lynching’ rhetoric is crude, and it won’t earn him the support of anyone who isn’t already in his corner. These accusations are here to stay. Still, he is calling for a “full investigation” and is “very confident in the truth” of his claims.
Isn’t it ironic that Democrats are being hoisted by their own petard? The very tactics they’ve tried to use against Republicans have failed miserably, while they have been caught in actual scandals drawing national attention.
