Sen. Nancy Pelosi is still the House Speaker, but her authority over fellow Democrats is slipping — and the way things are going, that authority may soon be completely lost.
A forceful challenge has arisen from some of the newest members of Congress, who are openly defying Pelosi’s position on impeachment proceedings against President Trump.
Pelosi has been on record as opposing impeachment, despite her often hostile relationship with Trump.
“Impeachment is so divisive to the country that unless there’s something so compelling and overwhelming and bipartisan, I don’t think we should go down that path,” Pelosi said.
However, freshman Representatives Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Ilhan Omar are leaping head-first into impeachment.
“Everything outlined in the #MuellerReport is further proof of what I’ve been saying for a long time: it’s #TimetoImpeach,” said Tlaib, who apparently missed the part where the report found no evidence of any actual crimes.
