President Donald Trump recently held a televised meeting in the Oval Office to discuss border security measures, a spending bill battle and potential government shutdown with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer.
The Hill noted that Pelosi dismissed the level of support Trump had among House Republicans regarding his request for border wall funding during that discussion, and confidently declared, “The fact is you do not have the votes in the House.”
But the opposite was proven true on Thursday when House Republicans managed to pass a bill which included the funds Trump had requested, prompting many House Republicans to take a proverbial victory lap around Pelosi as they celebrated proving her prediction wrong.
“I think she may be a good vote-counter, but not on our side of the aisle,” said Republican Oklahoma Rep. Tom Cole, who suggested the loss for Pelosi could impact her bid to be Speaker next year.
