Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY) had a perfect two-sentence reponse to NBC reports that his great-great grandfather owned 14 slaves, the Daily Wire reported. At Tuesday afternoon’s Senate leadership press conference, the majority leader answered reporters’ questions about the NBC report about his family.
“You know, I find myself once again in the same position as President Obama,” McConnell said. “We both oppose reparations and we both are the descendants of slave owners.”
Obama said in 2004 that he opposed reparations for slavery because “they would be an excuse for some to say we’ve paid our debt,” and he did not pursue reparations during his eight years as president.
McConnell has said that he opposes reparations because “noone currently alive was responsible for that.”
It’s good to see more Republicans having the courage to shut down ridiculous Democrat attempts to make them look bad. We probably have President Donald Trump to thank for at least some of that.
