As a result of Congress’s failure to find a solution on border security, a partial government shutdown was triggered that lasted for over a month. Now, Vice President Mike Pence has upped the ante even further.
Speaking on ‘CBS This Morning’ about the issue, Vice President Pence said he could not “guarantee” a second shutdown wouldn’t occur. “We agreed to reopen the government for three weeks because after talking to Democrat rank-and-file members of the Senate and of the House, we were told that they were willing to work with us,” said Pence.
This is smart negotiating by President Trump and Vice President Pence — it places the burden back onto Democrats where it belongs. If they are truly serious about preventing another partial shutdown, then it’s time to negotiate on funding for a border wall to address our illegal immigration problem.
“I never think it’s a mistake to stand up for what you believe in,” said Pence defending President Trump’s decision-making thus far. “He said he was determined to get the funding, to build a wall and secure our border and he was willing to take a stand to accomplish that.”
