In spite of the many Democrats who have already announced their plans to run for president in 2020, there’s at least one possibility remaining on the lips of media elites and party insiders: Michelle Obama.
Liberal commentator Piers Morgan, best known for his anti-Second Amendment rants, said in an op-ed that Democrats “have to somehow persuade Michelle to run” because “she just may be the one person in the country” who can defeat President Trump.
Morgan pointed to the uproarious reception she received at this year’s Grammy Awards, where she was trotted out by Lady Gaga, Jennifer Lopez, and Jada Pinkett Smith. While these stars all got a positive reaction, the room went crazy when Michelle Obama appeared. He also noted her top-selling autobiography.
But tears from Hollywood superstars and a lucrative book deal don’t make one a competitive presidential candidate. Michelle Obama may be highly regarded, but only in the circles that average Americans don’t hold in high esteem. By all means, though: Send Lady Gaga with Michelle on a campaign tour and see what happens at the ballot box.
