Megyn Kelly may not be a Today Show anchor or Fox News host any more, but she still called it like she saw it in a recent tweet about Michael Avenatti. The vocal Trump critic and lawyer faces new charges of fraud related to his representation of porn star Stormy Daniels and payments he received on her behalf.
Her tweet referred to Avenatti and new charges filed Wednesday that alleged he misappropriated funds that were supposed to be paid to Daniels during the time she was accusing Trump of paying for her silence about their relationship. Trump has denied both having any kind of relationship with Daniels and with authorizing his then-personal attorney, Michael Cohen, to pay Daniels $130,000 to stay quiet about it.
“The press promoted this guy with glee & abandon,” Kelly tweeted, adding, “Why? Bc he said awful things about Trump, & that’s like catnip to the media.”
Avenatti was a media darling while he represented Daniels, even though no evidence was ever presented that Daniels and Trump had a relationship or that Trump told Cohen to pay her off. The press’s affection for Avenatti has cooled since he was charged with trying to extort $29 million from Nike.
As for Daniels’ charges against him, Avenatti said that she only paid $100 directly for “millions in legal services” and that he looks forward to answering the charges in court.
