If the newest Gallup poll is an indication, U.S. voters may be feeling buyers’ remorse over the new crop of far left Democrats such as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The poll, taken between February 1 and 10, indicates that Republicans now outnumber Democrats.
With 31 percent identifying as Republicans and 30 percent as Democrats, the lead may seem insignificant; but this represents a big shift from the previous polling period, when Democrats outnumbered Republicans by seven points.
The period before that, in early January when Ocasio-Cortez and her colleagues were just getting sworn in, the Democrats enjoyed an even larger 9 percentage point lead.
The new Gallup poll suggests that Democrats’ leftward leap may be alienating rather than energizing the voters they hope to rally against President Trump in 2020.
The last two months have also been riddled with Democratic gaffes, such as the unrealistic Green New Deal and Senator Elizabeth Warren’s clash with the Cherokee Nation, which have generated more laughs than political capital for Democrats.
