U.S. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) is devasted. Her presidential campaign could be completely over now after a stunning statement leaked from her own father. The Democratic darling is in a tailspin.
“My roots go back, within my lifetime, to my paternal grandmother Miss Chrishy (née Christiana Brown, descendant of Hamilton Brown who is on record as plantation and slave owner and founder of Brown’s Town),” wrote Donal Brown, her father.
Prof. Brown is an economics professor and Standard University and presented his findings in a lengthy report about his Jamaican ancestry. According to Brown’s findings, he and Harris are related to Hamilton Brown, his grandfather.
Brown’s Town in Jamaica is reportedly named after Hamilton Brown himself, who appareently weilded much influence in the community. This is surely going to cause headaches for Sen. Harris, who has given lip service to the idea of slavery reparations.
Unsurprisingly, Harris’ campaign has not yet commented on the controversy. All eyes are on her now to see if she responds to her father’s report or ignores it completely. Either way, she cannot escape her family’s history.
This is an especially ironic development considering that the debate on reparations has been reignated in Washington, DC. However, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has made it clear that any such proposal is dead on arrival.
