A 9th Circuit Court of Appeals judge in San Francisco just did the unthinkable, stunning Trump with a major immigration decision.
The Daily Caller reports that the ruling affirmed that “California’s sanctuary city statutes do not conflict with federal immigration laws.”
This decision resolves a 2018 lawsuit that the DOJ filed against three California laws regarding state sanctuary rules.
The ruling is a devastating blow to the Trump administration as it battles against the rising tide of illegal immigration.
The judge’s decision comes as a particular surprise due to the fact that the same court just lifted a restriction on a major Trump immigration policy last week. Last week’s ruling suspended restrictions on the Migrant Protection Protocols, which required immigrants to remain in Mexico while awaiting their court dates.
This week’s decision stated that “California has the right […] to refrain from assisting with federal efforts.” This decision is particularly destructive due to what the U.S. Customs and Border Protection describes as an ongoing “unprecedented humanitarian and border security crisis.”
