A seven-year-old was shot Thursday evening on Chicago’s West Side while trick-or-treating. The girl, who was dressed in a bee costume, suffered a neck wound after being shot and is in critical condition.
The man screamed, “My daughter’s been shot!” after a man in a group of males opened fire. The girl’s shooting was called unintentional by Chicago police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi in a tweet.
More than 500 people were killed in Chicago by gunfire in 2018, and more than 13,000 were shot. Shootings have been down slightly this year.
The city has strict gun laws but has been unable to enforce them in high-crime areas. Gun deaths have been disproportionately black and male. Chicago has been Democrat-run for decades.
Trump was right when he visited Chicago last week and said police need to be allowed to do their jobs.
