Michelle Obama just made a shock announcement regarding her rumored 2020 candidacy.
Obama revealed that she is not planning on launching a presidential campaign this election cycle. She made the announcement in front of a huge crowd at Frank Erwin Center in Austin, TX.
In response to an audience member’s question, Obama replied “nope, nope, nope” and went on to clarify “it’s not us occupying the same seats, it’s making room.”
Michelle Obama is currently promoting her book ‘Becoming’ on a national book tour. Rumors have swirled for months that the former first lady is planning on joining the race to the White House.
According to the Daily Mail “highly placed Washington insiders believed Mrs. Obama’s sky-high approval ratings would prompt senior Democrats to urge her to reconsider.”
Early polls were showing Obama leading most other Democrat candidates in popularity. However, when questioned, she has been reluctant to disclose any future political ambitions. For now, she’s squashing the speculation but it’s still early in the race.
