Americans have become so accustomed to extreme rhetoric we have forgotten that some things said are just pure slander. Acting Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Ken Cuccinelli is the latest victim of terrible slander.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) has accused Cuccinelli of pushing white supremacist policies – with no evidence.
The accusation came after Cuccinelli implemented the “public charge” rule. The rule would label immigrants that use welfare for a certain time as “public charges” and it could be used as grounds to deny green cards.
It is a policy designed to punish people who attempt to take advantage of our social safety nets without contributing to this country.
On MSNBC’s “The Last Word,” Wasserman Schultz called the rule “white supremacist ideology” and implicated Cuccinelli as a white supremacist for advocating it.
That kind of accusation is thrown around so much these days that people have begun to stop paying attention to it. But such casual slander is serious. It can ruin lives and reputations. It needs to face repercussions.
