An Alabama man who was arrested Saturday for stabbing a 20-foot mocking balloon of President Donald Trump as a baby raised $32,500 in just 24 hours from a GoFundMe page he made to cover his legal bills and restitution.
Hoyt Hutchinson, 32, was arrested and charged with felony first-degree criminal mischief for stabbing the balloon as protesters flew it near the football game between University of Alabama and Lousiana State University, which Trump was attending.
Hutchinson’s act reportedly caused an eight-foot gash in the balloon that made it fall to the ground. He said he didn’t want Trump to see the “disrespectful” balloon flying in his hometown.
The GoFundMe page far exceeded it’s $6,000 goal, and after less than 48 hours, had exceeded $40,000. Over 1,400 people donated to the fund.
Any excess funds not used for Hutchinson’s legal and restitution costs will be donated to the Republican Party and the Trump campaign “to further support this great country,” the GoFundMe description said.
