Acting Department of Homeland Security Secretary Claire Grady just shocked the nation by abruptly resigning from her position in the administration.
President Trump has made some drastic changes to the Department’s leadership team. Grady is just another in a string of high-level resignations and replacements this week.
After former DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen quit on Sunday, Grady was technically slated to take her spot. However, President Trump decided to install the former head of Customs and Border Protection, Kevin McAleenan, in the position.
Trump’s nomination of McAleenan essentially gave Grady the choice of being fired or offering her resignation.
The U.S. Border Patrol reported record-breaking numbers of illegal immigrant families attempting to cross the border in recent months. Fox News revealed that “the agency said Tuesday that it apprehended 92,607 people at the U.S.-Mexico border in March.”
President Trump has renewed his focus on stemming the tide of illegal immigration across the poorly secured border in recent weeks. Trump has clearly targeted DHS leadership as a major obstacle in his quest to increase border security.
