Seven people were killed on Friday and Saturday in Louisiana, Texas and Alabama as severe storms including at least one tornado moved through the area.
In Louisiana, one man was crushed by a tree in his bed and a couple were thrown from their trailer, which moved 200 feet from its foundation.
In Alabama, three deaths occurred in Pickens County, and in Texas, one man died Friday night when his car flipped into a ditch.
Several injuries were also reported, and over 100,000 customers were without power in Mississippi, Tennessee and Arkansas. Homes were destroyed or damaged in Missouri, Oklahoma and Arkansas, and at least two house fires were caused by lightning in northern Texas.
The storms moved north on Sunday, causing a potential ice storm in Chicago that led to 1,000 canceled flights.
