Former national security advisor John Bolton just received bad news. The Senate impeachment trial isn’t going his way at all, in spite of a suspicious leak from his new book.
In his book, Bolton alleges that Trump “wanted to continue freezing $391 million in security assistance to Ukraine until officials there helped with investigations into Democrats including the Bidens.”
However, Rep. Doug Collins (R-GA) noted on Fox News, “Adam Schiff could have actually subpoenaed John Bolton, went through this process in the House, he chose not to.”
Collins, a ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, also pointed out that Bolton’s accusation isn’t anything new and people should recognize the political timing of “selective leaks” like this one.
The lawmaker put forth some valid points. Schiff has the opportunity to subpoena Bolton while the House conducted its impeachment inquiry. Why didn’t he do so?
It is likely because Democrats had a different plan in mind — wait until this so-called “leak” comes out at the eleventh hour and try to capitalize on it politically. But this changes absolutely nothing.
