China has continued to crack down on organized religion in the communist nation, especially if the churches are not registered and sanctioned by the government. It is a terrifying situation.
Wang was reportedly charged with “subverting state power,” proving once more that China has a long way to go on ensuring basic liberties. It is time for the entire world to put pressure on China.
If we do not speak with one voice in support of religious freedom, China will never stop arresting Christians or other people of faith for simply exercising their God-given rights.
In addition to Wang’s church, the 500-strong Early Rain Covenant Church, being raided recently by Chinese authorities, Zion Church in Beijing — with approx. 1,500 followers — was raided and shut down.
