Jussie Smollett’s PR firm is insisting that “every iota” of his story about being abducted in Chicago last year fits with police evidence, even as police say the entire incident was staged.
The statement is a response to the city of Chicago filing a lawsuit against Smollett Monday to recoup the costs of its investigation into the alleged hate crime.
Smollett gave no specific information about what evidence he said was corroborated. In contrast, police said they had GPS data, video and other evidence that Smollett paid two men to stage the abduction.
Smollett was charged with faking the attack in January, but the charges were dropped in February with an agreement that Smollett do community service and forfeit his $10,000 bond payment.
State Attorney Kim Foxx’s handling of the case is also being investigated by a special prosecutor.
