Former Secretary of State and U.S. Senator John Kerry just received an arrest notice for his meddling. A top Trump official announced it on live TV.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, appearing on ‘Fox & Friends,’ said Trump’s claim that Kerry violated the law is “true.” What Kerry did is “unusual, but more important, it’s wrong.”
Kerry is accused of trying to negotiate with Iranian officials behind the scenes in order to save the nuclear deal that President Trump canceled, which the Logan Act forbids.
Trump said: “What I would like to see with Iran, I would like to see them call me. John Kerry, he speaks to them a lot. John Kerry tells them not to call. That is a violation of the Logan Act. And frankly, he should be prosecuted on that.”
More specifically, the Logan Act makes it a criminal act for any American to negotiate with foreign governments if they aren’t authorized to do so.
