Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said in a radio interview Tuesday that she wasn’t sure Democrat 2020 presidential frontrunner Joe Biden had the “capacity” to be president ay his age. Biden’s lackluster performance in the first set of debates inspired the comments.
The debate “raised some questions” about Biden’s fitness for the presidency, Ocasio-Cortez said. She then added, “I don’t want to say just because someone is 79, they can’t or shouldn’t run for president.”
Biden lost 10 percentage points in the polls after the debate, in which Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) attacked him for making comments about having gotten along with Senate segregationists in the 1970s. Biden has sparred with Ocasio-Cortez previously. Just last week, he called the freshman House member “a brilliant, bright woman,” but said that her “way-left” tilt would not be successful in a general election.
