It was just made official — a major enemy of President Trump’s will die in prison. Justice has finally been served, and he’s being put behind bars for life.
Joaquin Guzman, otherwise known as the infamous Mexican drug lord, El Chapo, was sentenced by a federal judge to life in prison plus 30 years for his illegal, violent career of trafficking drugs into the United States through his cartel.
It goes without saying that El Chapo played a sizable role in taking advantage of our border crisis for his own benefit, and both his drugs and cartel have been responsible for many murders over the years. His sentence comes as a relief to all Americans.
Now, one of Trump’s staunch allies, Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX), is calling for the addtional action. “I think the next step is to criminally forfeit his entire global criminal enterprise,” said Cruz. But then he added even more to the plan.
Cruz said El Chapo’s enterprise is “worth billions and we should use every penny of that money to build the wall and secure the border. It’s why I introduced legislation, the EL CHAPO Act, to use that money to build the wall.”
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) should take up Cruz’s legislation immediately. After it passes the Senate, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi will have a choice to make: Do the right thing or obstruct Trump’s plan once again.
