In a closed Pentagon briefing on Friday, President Donald Trump was given a list of options for dealing with Iran following an attack by Iran-backed Yemeni Houthis on Saudi oil fields last week, the Hill reported.
Some of the options include airstrikes inside Iran. The president will also be warned that some of the options may lead to war with Iran.
“It is my job to provide military options to the president should he decide to respond with military force,” Gen. Joseph Dunford, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, told reporters earlier this week.
Trump said last week that he would increase sanctions on Iran. Previous U.S. sanctions have prevented Iran from selling its oil around the world and have made the nation increasingly desperate as its economy has been severely impacted.
Iran has also tried to seize several oil tankers near the Strait of Hormuz and reportedly shot down an unmanned U.S. drone it said was in its airspace.
