Iran has retaliated after the U.S. strike on General Soleimani. Their first attack has been confirmed to be a hack against a government website.
The website run by the Federal Depository Library Program was defaced then taken offline. The hackers left a message on the site saying, “In the name of god. >>>>> Hacked By Iran Cyber Security Group HackerS … ;)<<<<<. This is only small part of Iran’s cyber ability ! We’re always ready.”
The attack comes after Iran vowed harsh retaliation for the killing of top general Qasem Soleimani and other airstrikes against Iran milita.
The message the hackers left is amusingly questionable. They brag it is only a small part of their cyber ability but that doesn’t seem to be the case.
The website was run by a relatively obscure federal department. If Iran was trying to send a message and they truly have the capability surely they would have attacked something more important.
If Iran’s harsh retaliation is meaningless cyberattacks they may have been completely overestimated by everyone.
