House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) made it clear in remarks to reporters that the will of the American people about impeaching President Donald Trump would not determine her actions or those of other House Democrats.
“The voters are not going to decide whether we honor our oath of office,” Pelosi said in response to a question from a reporter about whether the will of the people should be considered.
In fact, the voters always have a say in how politicians behave, because the voters can deny them an opportunity to serve any longer.
Pelosi also said impeachment “has nothing to do” with the 2020 election, but if it was really about the “the truth and the Constitution of the United States” as she claims, then why is Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) pressuring witnesses to agree with his version of events and making up what Trump said in a conversation rather than focusing on “the truth”?
It’s pretty clear that despite Pelosi’s denials, the specter of impeachment is the only thing Democrats have to bargain with going into 2020, and they are trying to squeeze every shady vote out of it that they possibly can.
