Black Hawk Down veterans are fighting back with the brutal facts after Somali-born Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) smeared them as murderers who killed “thousands” of her fellow Somalis.
Nineteen U.S. troops were killed in the 1993 Battle of Mogadishu while defending Omar’s own tribe against warlord Mohammed Farah Aidid.
“In helping her tribe, we had to eliminate those who were bad,” said Kyle Lamb, a former Delta Force operator.
“She should be thankful we were there to help her people.”
Danny McKnight, an Army Ranger who took bullets to the neck and arm, said he was “offended” by her statement that that thousands were killed—a claim he called “not true at all.”
Actual death toll estimates range from around 300 to 1,000 dead, and there is no evidence that U.S. troops fired on anyone other than the fighters who ambushed them.
