Once-in-a-generation comedian and Saturday Night Live member Norm Macdonald has passed away at the age of 61.
Deadline reports that Macdonald had been battling cancer for nearly ten years but didn’t make a public spectacle out of the diagnosis. He “was determined to keep his health strong and his struggles private.”
Macdonald got his start as a writer on the now-cancelled Roseanne Barr’s show Roseanne in the early nineties and joined Saturday Night Live in 1993. He remained on the show until 1998.
Perhaps is most memorable role on the show was his portrayal of then-presidential candidate Bob Dole, who tweeted his condolences:
