Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi is devastated after a major arrest. This destroys her ant-Trump propaganda, and the news is spreading like wildfire nationwide.
Gregorio Neri-Basilio, a deported Mexican national, attempted to illegally re-enter the U.S. via California — until Border Patrol caught up with him. The 36-year-old was arrested and awaits sentencing, and his background is even more startling.
Ner-Basilio was originally deported on a felony conviction of sexually abusing a child in 2014. He spent 12 months in prison for his crime and then was sent back to Mexico.
If he’s convicted of attempting illegal re-entry into the county as a felon — and there’s no reason why he shouldn’t be — he faces up to 20 years in federal prison. Speaker Pelosi should be forced to recognize that this incident is not unique.
Deported criminals attempt to re-enter the United States regularly and often do. As hard as our brave Border Patrol works, they simply cannot catch everyone — it’s why we need additional tools, like a secure wall, to aid them in enforcing the law.
Far from being a “manufactured crisis,” as Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer have suggested, the border situation must be addressed soon. Trump’s recently passed funding package will certainly move things in the right direction.
