A resident of Toledo, Ohio, has been taken into federal custody for making online death threats against New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
The Washington Examiner reports:
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Cleveland said 41-year-old Timothy Ireland of Toledo, Ohio, was charged with delivering threats against a member of Congress and illegally possessing bullets.
Ireland made a Facebook post in which he allegedly wrote that the New York congresswoman “should be shot.”
The political divide has never been worse. Violence has been escalating and the rhetoric along with it.
It is unacceptable to call for violence against someone regardless of whether you agree with them or not.
Doing so is a crime and justice should strike swiftly.
Now its time for authorities to apply the law equally. Threats against conservatives like Mitch McConnell and Kellyanne Conway should also be met with prosecution.
