She was just pardoned and the mainstream media is freaking out. They don’t know how to handle this news, but it’s spreading like wildfire nationwide.
For 15 years, Cyntoia Brown has been in prison after being convicted of murdering Johnny Mitchell Allan — though she’s claimed it was self-defense all along. Bill Haslam, Tennessee’s Republican governor, saw fit to grant her release before leaving office.
Brown was serving a life sentence, which former Gov. Haslam identified as “too harsh” considering everything she’s done to “rebuild her life.” He approved her clemency back in January and she will be freed this month.
For her part, Cyntoia Brown continued to maintain that she was forced into prostitution by a pimp named “Kut Throat” at the age of 16. Alone and vulnerable, she killed Allan — who took her home for sex — out of fear for her own life.
“Thank you, Governor Haslam, for your act of mercy in giving me a second chance. I will do everything I can to justify your faith in me,” said Brown in a January statement after Haslam announced his decision.
“We truly serve a God of second chances and new beginnings,” continued Brown. “The Lord has held my hand this whole time and I would have never made it without Him.”
