In an interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, President Trump ended speculation about whether he will declassify the Carter Page FISA documents.”
“I have plans to declassify and release. I have plans to absolutely release,” Trump said.
The heavily redacted documents detail the FBI’s justification for its surveillance of Trump’s former campaign advisor Carter Page.
Trump originally wanted to declassify the documents in 2018, but was advised to wait until after special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.
“One of the reasons that my lawyers didn’t want me to do it, they said if I do it, they will call it a form of obstruction… But at the right time, we will be absolutely releasing it.”
The FISA documents are just one piece of the puzzle as Trump, the Department of Justice and congressional Republicans investigate the origin of the FBI’s probe into the Trump campaign.
