A report in a newly released book says that former FBI Director James Comey disregarded protocol when he set up a meeting at the White House with national security adviser Vince Flynn without informing or consulting Flynn’s lawyers or White House counsel.
In the book Crossfire Hurricane: Inside Donald Trump’s War on the FBI, Comey is quoted as saying, “We just said, you know, screw it” in reference to setting up the meeting outside of protocol.
The report came from Josh Campbell, who was Comey’s personal assistant at the time of the events. The interview was regarding conversations Flynn had with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak.
Flynn later pled guilty to making false statements in that meeting, in which he denied discussing U.S. sanctions with Kislyak, but he recently obtained a new legal team that is pressing for the charges against him to be dismissed.
Lead lawyer for the new team Sidney Powell told the Daily Caller that the book’s revelations show that Flynn’s prosecution was unfair.
