Robert Mueller felt the heat this weekend, after President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani ripped Mueller’s investigation and issued a black and white ultimatum – show what you have or shut it down.
The Hill reports:
“It should have been wrapped up probably in May or June. That’s when they figured out they had no evidence of collusion,” Giuliani asserted, adding, “Collusion is not a crime, by the way.”
Giuliani went on in the interview to urge Mueller to release his final report while appearing to suggest that the special counsel will not have evidence required to bring criminal charges against the president.
“So, I am challenging them: It’s time to put up or shut up. It’s time for them to submit a report,” Giuliani said. “They don’t have, as we would say in New York, a damn thing.”
Giuliani’s words have to be perceived as a warning shot across Mueller’s bow – after all, Giuliani’s boss, Donald Trump, hasn’t been shy about his views that the President has the ultimate power to fire the special counsel.
The harsh fact is that Mueller doesn’t have anything, and he can only hold off saying so for so long.
