Fox News’ Alan Dershowitz blasted BuzzFeed’s recent allegations against President Donald Trump, calling the poorly-sourced news story an example of the media’s “get Trump” mindset.
BuzzFeed sensationally claimed that Trump directed his former lawyer Michael Cohen to lie to Congress about plans to built a Trump Tower in Moscow. But that narrative disintegrated as abruptly as it arrived, thanks to a public statement from special counsel Robert Mueller criticizing the story as “not accurate.”
Dershowitz said that even without Mueller’s statement, the BuzzFeed story was suspect. There were no “smoking gun emails” and no eyewitness accounts other than that of Cohen himself, who lacks credibility and has a reputation for lying. Yet, the story exploded throughout the mainstream media anyway.
“As is typical of the ‘get Trump’ media,” Dershowitz said, “wishful thinking took the place of thoughtful analysis and journalistic skepticism.”
