Fox just fired them all. Contracts have been terminated, and people are shocked. Major changes are coming to this show.
In the wake of the Jussie Smollett controversy, Fox has announced that Empire will end next year. There are “no plans” for Smollett’s return for the show’s sixth and final season.
The announcement came from Fox Entertainment CEO Charlie Collier during a phone interview with several reporters, in which he understandably dodged more than one question about Smollett.
But Collier finally gave an answer. “You know, really, the [writers’] room hasn’t even gathered yet. So we have the option to [bring Smollett back], but there are no plans at this point,” he said.
This is evidence that Fox isn’t comfortable at all talking about Smollett. Who can blame them? The stunt he pulled trying to blame conservatives for an assault against him backfired and made national news.
The Chicago police that investigated him know the truth and have been vocal about it, but Smollett’s charges were abruptly and suspiciously dropped by state prosecutors.
