Rachel Dolezal found fame fraudulently identifying as African American — and now she is in trouble for fraudulently identifying as poor.
Dolezal, who changed her name to Nkechi Diallo, agreed to play $8,847 in restitution and do 120 hours of community service to avoid trial for welfare fraud.
Dolezal was charged after allegedly collecting welfare while failing to report tens of thousands of dollars in income from her book, “In Full Color: Finding My Place in a Black and White World.”
“I think that this is a fair resolution of the case under circumstances,” her attorney said.
Dolezal resigned as president of the Spokane chapter of the NAACP after she was outed as a white woman.
Her insistence that she considered herself black sparked a national debate over whether a person can be legitimately trans-racial.
