The FBI just swooped in and a top Democrat is in full panic mode. He never expected this to happen, and President Trump is smiling. No one is above the law.
According to reports, the FBI has arrested two former, high-ranking officials, who served in Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló’s administration. The suspects are being accused by U.S. authorities of corruption and misappropriating taxpayer dollars.
In a statement, U.S. Attorney Rosa Emilia Rodriguez-Vélez said, “Keleher and Avila-MarCrero exploited their government positions and fraudulently awarded contracts funded with federal monies.”
“The charged offenses are reprehensible, more so in light of Puerto Rico’s fiscal crisis,” Rodriguez-Vélez continued, confirming President Trump’s long-held skepticism of Puerto Rico’s leadership.
Remember: It was Trump himself who called Puerto Rican officials “incompetent or corrupt” as the federal government dealt with responding to Hurricane Maria. Clearly, his concerns were valid all along.
Now, calls are being made for Gov. Rosselló to resign due to the controversy and arrests. “The governor of Puerto Rico and his administration have now given President Trump the ammunition he needed,” said San Yuan Mayor Cameron Yulin Cruz.
