One month after expressing frustration over having her on-air spot being given to a different reporter as a reward for being black, Rachel Nichols and ESPN have parted ways via a “mutual decision” for Nichols to move on.
Rachel Nichols still had a year left on her contract, but after the final few episodes of her show The Jump air, Nichols will not be seen on ESPN in any capacity.
The parting of ways comes about one month after leaked audio of Nichols surfaced in which she described that she was just as deserving as then-coworker Maria Taylor to host ESPN’s NBA coverage because being a woman should have made Nichols diverse enough.
Nichols joined ESPN in 2004, and had worked there since, except for a break between 2013 and 2016.
Maria Taylor, the person Nichols was frustrated took her spot, also jumped ship from ESPN and is headed to cover sports for NBC.
