Elizabeth Warren Makes Shock Threat – The Mic Was Hot

Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) has tread where few Democrats dare go when it comes to big tech.

On Friday, the 2020 presidential candidate called for the breakup of Facebook, Google and Amazon.

Concerned that the tech giants’ meteoric rise “highlights why the government must break up monopolies and promote competitive markets,” Warren proposed undoing recent mergers, such as Amazon’s acquisition of Whole Foods.

Warren also called for legislation that would categorize certain companies as “platform utilities,” prevent them from owning their participants’ platforms, ban data sharing with other companies, and require them to “meet a standard of fair, reasonable, and nondiscriminatory dealing with users.”

Ironically, Facebook, Google and Amazon all have a reputation for supporting Democrats and leftist causes.

Whatever comes of Warren’s plan to secure “competitive markets” through heavy-handed government intervention, it does shed light on her previous statement that she is not a socialist but rather a believer in markets.
