It’s been one year since President Trump’s first physical exam—and the reports of how he has treated his body during the intervening 365 days are not good.
“The President received a diet and exercise plan last year after his annual physical, but the President admits he has not followed it religiously,” said one White House official.
The plan was designed to meet the modest goal of losing 12 pounds. But Trump, who suffers from high cholesterol, has balked at giving up fast food or setting foot in the White House fitness room. He has been known to dismiss exercise as a waste of energy; and when asked about the subject, he could only point to his infrequent, very short walks to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building. Trump is also an avid golfer, but hasn’t hit the course since the partial government shutdown began.
President Trump’s risk-taking personality may help explain his nonchalant attitude toward his health. But another factor to consider is that Trump is in his 70s, and old habits die hard.
