Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg recently underwent lung surgery to remove a pair of cancerous growths, a surgery that occurred little more than a month after the 85-year-old jurist fractured three ribs in a fall in her office.
While virtually everyone across the ideological spectrum is praying for Ginsburg’s full and speedy recovery, a doctor writing an op-ed for The Daily Caller has made a shocking diagnosis – it’s likely that she has metastatic cancer. He noted that this is either Ginsburg’s third bout with cancer or evidence that she was never fully in remission from either of her two previous bouts with cancer — colon cancer in 1999 and pancreatic cancer in 2009 — both of which have low rates of survival if found to have metastasized.
On top of the cancer, Ginsburg also has heart health issues, having had a cardiac stent implanted in an artery in 2014.
The bottom line is, regardless of her determined drive to remain on the court or the legion of supporters offering up their own lungs on her behalf, Ginsburg’s health issues may have limited the time she has left on the high court, a fact of life that will eventually result in potentially the worst ideological battle over a Supreme Court replacement ever in the history of this country.
