The body of Galveston County, Texas police chief Chris Reed was found Sunday morning, two days after his wife reported seeing him fall off a fishing boat. Reed was hit by a huge wave from a passing ship and fell into the water on Friday afternoon.
Reed, 50, was not wearing a life jacket when he was knocked off the boat. Coast Guard and law enforcement personnel searched the waters in the area before finding Reed’s body early Sunday.
“Chief Reed is a big, big part of Galveston County law enforcement,” Texas City Police Chief Joe Stanton also said on Friday night. Stanton also called Reed a “great cop.”
Reed was an Army veteran and a trustee of the Clear Creek Independent School District, where his wife teaches. Reed’s wife and children thanked law enforcement and rescue crews for their efforts to find him and for their love and strength.
Reed and his wife had been on a fishing trip together.
