In a stunning display of Democrat-on-Democrat violence, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, just threatened former special counsel Robert Mueller.
On Mueller testifying by choice, Schiff said, “I think time is running out.” Then he dropped a bombshell. “We’re reaching a point where if we can’t reach an agreement … then we’ll have to use a subpoena,” he said.
Schiff would prefer Mueller to testify voluntarily, of course, likely to avoid a political mess — including a showdown with Mueller himself. At this point, Mueller has made it clear he won’t be giving further testimony.
“I think with someone like Bob Mueller, appealing to his patriotism and his sense of duty is the right way to go, but at the end of the day, he has to testify,” said Schiff on CNN.
What does this all mean, exactly? It means that Democrats are hungry for anything they can use against Trump heading into an election year, and they’ll throw Mueller under the bus if necessary to achieve their goal.
For all of Mueller’s faults, however, it’s highly unlikely that he’ll be bullied into testifying before Schiff’s committee. He also won’t have anything to contribute, given his two-year witch-hunt came up with absolutely nothing. Schiff better think twice.
