A high-ranking Republican just announced that criminal conspiracy charges could be around the corner for former FBI Director James Comey. He can’t escape responsibility for his actions.
In an interview with Breitbart News, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) said, “One thing the Inspector General made clear by all the interviews and evidence that he gathered is that Comey is definitely part of the conspiracy.”
Nunes is talking about the conspiracy to conduct a witch-hunt against then-candidate Donald Trump, which many have concluded was illegal. Comey’s trouble stems partly from memos he personally kept and one he leaked to the media.
Nunes noted in his interview that Comey has not bee forthright about his activity and it’s time for him to be held accountable. “We need real charges brought,” said Nunes, something he is hopeful will be happening soon.
“I think a lot of people are frustrated because they feel like Comey leaked classified information,” Nunes added. He went on to say that he believes the “evidence is there,” but he’s also been “very careful” to allow the legal process to play out.
While Comey gloats and demands an apology from his critics — given that the DOJ chose not to prosecute at this time — it appears that he should probably tamp down on the premature celebration.
