Alexandria Ocasio Cortez loves to project that she is a woman of the people. However, she is no different from any of the other politicians. Corruption is apparently not something that her camp is afraid of, either.
Now the feds are looking into her recently resigned chief of staff.
Saikat Chakrabarti suddenly resigned Friday, raising questions about why he left so abruptly after being a key part of her team — and moreover, what did the congresswoman know and when did she know it? These are questions that investigators must determine the answers to as they seek to investigate and, if necessary, prosecute her former top staffer.
The former chief of staff is suspected of campaign finance misdeeds. This is especially important because Democrats have accused President Trump of financial crimes with regards to payments to Stormy Daniels. Democrats allege that the payment to her constituted an illegal and unreported campaign contribution. But by the definition Democrats claim, nearly anything that is beneficial to a political career could be considered a campaign donation, including a haircut.
Ocasio-Cortez’s time in office has been riddled with allegations. Now her sins may finally be catching up with her. Perhaps she should have done a better job of vetting the man she picked to head up her entire congressional operation. Or maybe she just didn’t care until there was a reasonable likelihood that he would get caught — or worse, indicted — for his alleged crimes.
She may have once been an outsider; but now Ocasio-Cortez is just another member in the swamp. And now that she has an opponent in 2020, that’s something that is bound to come up on the campaign trail.
