President Donald Trump said Friday that a Black Lives Matter leader’s comment that the group would “burn down this system” unless the United States “give[s] us what we want” amounted to “treason, sedition” and “insurrection.”
Greater New York Black Lives Matter president Hawk Newsome made the threats in a Fox News interview with Martha MacCallum, saying cryptically that he could be talking figuratively or literally about BLM’s plans.
“Let’s be very real and let’s observe the history of the 1960s,” Newsome said. “When black people were rioting, we have their highest growth in wealth, in property ownership. Think about the last few weeks. Since you started protesting there have been eight cops fired across the country.”
While Newsome made it clear that he thinks rioting is the way to get what he and BLM want from society, Trump is busy making executive orders that enforce stiff penalties for vandalizing monuments.
Newsome may be in for a shock if he thinks Trump is just going to roll over and let BLM continue to unleash violence on the country he loves.
