Sources in the Justice Department said that Inspector General Michael Horowitz will soon file a report detailing allegations that former FBI Director James Comey conducted a secret investigation into President Donald Trump even though he told Trump he was not, and said the same under oath more than once.
The Daily Wire reported that the report would say that Comey “was secretly trying to build a conspiracy case against the president, while at times acting as an investigative agent.”
Comey repeatedly told Trump that he wasn’t a target of any investigation before he was fired, but the truth turns out to be the opposite. While the circumstances that led to Trump firing Comey are still unclear, the covert investigation would have been more than enough of a reason, had Trump discovered it.
It would also make sense why Comey met with the Obama administration and then-National Intelligence Director James Clapper the day before he briefed Trump on the Steele dossier, which we now know to be largely fake.
At least some of the instances of possible obstruction cited in the Mueller report stem from Trump’s firing of Comey, but it turns out that firing was more than justified given Comey’s actions as this report describes.
