Experts on America’s relationship with China have been left scratching their heads after Biden’s Department of Justice (DOJ) revealed it is halting Trump’s plan to crack down on Chinese spying in the United States.
The “China Initiative” was launched under Trump, and promised to prevent spying by the Chinese Communist Party by utilizing a new “broader approach” to security.
The initiative began in 2018 and up until recently seemed to have the full support of the DOJ. Right up until the program was discontinued, the DOJ website defined it as being aimed at “identifying and prosecuting those engaged in trade secret theft, hacking, and economic espionage,” as well as “protecting our critical infrastructure against external threats through foreign direct investment and supply chain compromises.”
Guess protecting America wasn’t exactly at the top of Joe’s priorities list these days.
